The Gaz Hughes Sextet plays
A Tribute to Art Blakey

An Art Blakey Live record is the first jazz album that Gaz Hughes ever bought and remains one of his most played and treasured albums - endlessly inspiring him and offering new insights with every listen.  When it came to making his first album as band leader, choosing to spotlight the music of Art Blakey was for Gaz the most obvious and natural thing.  Consequently, timeless and much-loved tracks by composers such as Bobby Watson, Wayne Shorter, Freddie Hubbard and Curtis Fuller feature on the new album and will be performed by the sextet tonight.

Featuring in this project are some of the most influential musicians on the UK jazz scene today, including the superb talents of club favourites Alan Barnes, Bruce Adams and Dean Masser.  Having worked with each of these performers separately, Gaz has found them to be an inspiring joy and knew that they would contribute something very special when the time came to go into the studio.
