The film, starring Renée Zellweger as Judy, follows Garland’s career during the last year of her life when she relocated to Britain to perform at the Talk of the Town nightclub. It is coupled with flashbacks to her teenage years, especially the filming of The Wizard of Oz, but as she prepares for the show, battles with management, and reminisces with friends and adoring fans, her wit and warmth shine through. Even her dreams of love seem undimmed as she embarks on a whirlwind romance with Mickey Deans, her soon-to-be fifth husband. After initial success in a run of sell-out concerts, her efforts eventually stop making progress and worsen as her health deteriorates.
Featuring some of her best-known songs, the film celebrates the voice and the sheer pizzazz of “the world's greatest entertainer.”
