The Kite Runner

Amir lives in San Francisco, haunted by memories of Kabul, which he left as a child.  He returns to Afghanistan, seeking redemption for his past, shown in flashbacks to 1978, when he was a champion kite flyer.  Amir’s life is privileged, but he resents his best friend, Hassan, a superb kite runner from a lower social class.  Amir and his father succeed in escaping to America after the Soviet invasion, but Hassan remains behind; an emblem of Amir’s lost innocence, homeland, and capacity to "be good.".

Directed by Marc Forster.
